Griddle

I would enjoy the use of a custom made hasty-bake griddle that would fit
into the unit just like the grill grates.

kenny, we have looked at doing it, but it affects airflow too much and would be silly costly. There are some nice aluminum or stainless griddles that set right on top of the grates that work wonderful. I do pancakes, eggs, bacon, philly cheese steaks sandwiches, stir fry, etc... on it. Its is a great tool to have in the arsenal of gadgets.

I have a Lodge double burner griddle that I use on my Legacy. It works great but I often find I would like some more sq. inches to work with. How about a griddle that just replaced one of the grill grates? You could either use it on one side, with the regular grill grate on the other or in the center with 1/2 regular grill grate on either side to maximize air flow but still allow the smoke to circulate and provide maximum flavor for the items on the griddle. Like the lodge, you would still need to have a small part of the griddle surface depressed to use as a grease catcher but it should provide a lot more griddle cooking area than the lodge as well as being more stable for scraping off bits between batches as a "set top" griddle tends to slide around if you are scraping off seared onions, cheese, etc.

Unfortunate part about using the Lodge griddle is that it is a bit to long to place vertically on the grill and still be able to close the lid so you have to place it in the center horizontally and to one side (due to grate angles) and it takes up the majority of grill space. So you can't really multi-task very well (like sliders on the griddle and hot dogs on the grill grate at the same time).

As far as cost, once the casting mold is made the volume ordered should drive the price down. I know I would buy one. Anyone else?
