Stripped Lift Mechanism

My Lift Mechanism just stripped out. Have any of you had this problem? Almost looks like having to ship back to Tulsa to me.

Don,

Sorry for your woes. A lift mechanism is a replacement part http://www.hastybake.com/asccustompages/products.asp?fav=0&fpage=&page=1&categoryID=122&productID=623&cartID=279580524, so that is all that would have to be sent back if it's still under warranty.

Thanks and I had forgotten that the nut is attached to lift mechanism, thanks to Kristy. It just looks like six bolts to remove it. Not really sure how the needle works at this point, but hopefully the instructions will show me how. How long do the lift mechanisms usually last? It does get full heat and I must do a better job on keeping the crank handle/nut lubed, as I do have high heat lubricant.

I'm not the oldest H-B'r out there, but stripping out the crank is probably rare. I would suspect a bind in the mechanism somewhere.

I try to keep my coals off of the sides of the firebox which radiates to the lift mechanism, saves firebox too.

I like Tri-Flow as lubricant for both crank and lift pivot points. Any bicycle shop carries it.

I am on my way to ordering a new lifter. I just don't want to get caught in this situation again. And, no, I have never lubed the mechanism, only the crank.

I had one Legacy that the crank contact point, which is pointed like a pencil, pierced the strike plate, thereby binding the lift mechanism. It was a simple fix to just insert a phillips head screw into the hole it had made so that the contact point now contacts the center of the screw and the lifting mechanism works again.

I had Beverly Hills Grills clean my HB. I did order a new lift mechanism, but they were able to extract crank. I had a new crank and now all is well. At least I have a spare lift mechanism and that made a believer of me to lube the crank periodically. :D
